Free Marketing Help from CSI

See below an invitation from Bill Dubovsky, a marketing professor at the College of Staten Island, to not-for-profits to apply to receive free marketing help from an upper-level marketing class.  Please contact Bill directly at the email at the bottom of this message if you'd like to submit a project for consideration.

Attention Non-Profit and Membership Organizations.

CSI’s Marketing Research class, a 400 level undergraduate required course for all junior or senior marketing majors, may be able to help you and your organization market more effectively.

Benefits to your organization.

By working with our marketing research students:

·      You will better understand the profile your current members, donors, supporters, and contributors, their demographics (what they look like as a group) and their lifestyle (how to reach them and others like them) in order for you to better serve their needs. What do they spend, how often, what events do they like the best and what would they appreciate most? Are you marketing to the wrong market? Would a small change in your marketing strategy make a big change in your results?

·      Who are your competitors? How is your organization regarded? What marketing areas could you make more effective?

·      Together, our students and your organization, will craft a questionnaire that will be filled out both manually and electronically to your members as well as non-members. After the surveys are completed, our students will then use state-of-the-art statistical software applications (SPSS) to generate statistical tables and charts that can indicate future action items. The end of the course will provide you and your organization with a video presentation, a comprehensive report of their work: methodology, secondary research, primary research, tables, charts and graphs, conclusions and recommendations. This is a very data-driven project.

·      By working together, our students will get a better understanding of your organization’s mission and work.

Criteria for Choosing Organizations:
Marketing research works best for established organizations with at least a few years of financial success. You should have a mission statement, business / marketing plan, data base of “supporters” that can be contacted (which will remain confidential and under your control) as well as some time to spend with students in consultation. You supply the business needs and we supply the marketing research, analysis, suggestions and recommendations.

In order to have your organization considered for future student projects, please contact Bill Dubovsky, Adjunct Lecturer in Marketing and Management at the College of Staten Island, C.U.N.Y., by emailing him at William.dubovsky@mail.csi.cuny.edu or calling him at Comtel Information Services at 800.213.4884. He will be glad to discuss your situation, help you decide if this is right for you, and supply you with a guideline on how to get the most out of this opportunity. Deadlines for the Fall Semester are August 28 and Spring Semester is Jan 28.
