Since 2006 the Staten Island NFP Association has endeavored to fulfill its mission to serve as a common voice and resource for Staten Island’s not-for-profit organizations. Many of these efforts have been successful both as individual projects and as a means to establish a foundation for further program and capacity growth.
Some of these successes include:
- Membership growth doubled since our inception to now include 136 member organizations
- An annual roster of 16 to 18 professional development events ranging from large scale conferences to small working groups
- An annual 92% membership renewal rate
- Negotiation of automatic joint membership in the statewide New York Council of Nonprofits for all SINFPA members
- Partnerships with several citywide and regional assistance providers such as Lawyer’s Alliance, the Foundation Center, ReServe, the Nonprofit Finance Fund, the Better Business Bureau, the TCC Group, Cause Effective, and the Volunteer Consulting Group through which these groups offer the same high-quality professional development that they provide in other areas of the City
- A unique partnership with the United Way BoardServe program through which Staten Island not-for-profits and candidates for Board membership from Staten Island were put in touch with each other and ultimately placed on Boards of several local not-for-profit organizations
- The provision of hundreds of direct technical assistance services each year, ranging from referrals to professional experts to providing advice and consultation on more substantive organizational development issues
- The completion and regular updating of the Staten Island NFP Association Briefing Book, a comprehensive document that contains all of the critical information about SINFPA members that the Association can use to demonstrate the strength and importance of the Borough’s not-for-profit sector
- Completion of a strategic plan that is actively consulted for guidance in developing new programs and expanding the Association’s capacity.
